A Borehamwood councillor has been elected as the leader of Hertfordshire County Council’s Labour group.

Borehamwood North councillor Leon Reefe was appointed as the new leader at a meeting of the county authority on Tuesday.

Cllr Reefe replaces Cllr Sharon Taylor, who has led the group for the past five years.

Cllr Taylor stepped down to concentrate on leading Stevenage Borough Council, along with running her campaign to become elected as the next MP for Stevenage.

After the meeting, Cllr Reefe said: “I am delighted and privileged to have been elected by my colleagues - they are a wonderfully capable group with experience in many areas. We will be working hard to represent the people of Hertfordshire and hold the administration to account whenever and wherever necessary”.

Elected as Cllr Reefe’s deputy leader is Cllr Judi Billing, who represents Hitchin North.
