Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council announced the election of its new mayor and deputy mayor at its annual meeting tonight.

Councillor Clive Butchins stepped down as mayor and said it had been "a pleasure" to be able to attend so many different events and occasions in the role.

Cllr Butchins said: "I have strived to be a good representative and I hope I have got somewhere close to this. Being able to go out and meet so many people has been a joy and I shall always treasure my time as mayor."

Cllr Butchins thanked all the council staff who have assisted him during his time in office before handing over the reins to Cllr Pat Strack, who will take on the role.

Deputy mayor Cllr Simon Rubner also stood down from his position and thanked all his colleagues for their support.

He said: “It has been wonderful serving the town. I would like to thank Clive Butchins for working so well with me over the past year, and I’d like to congratulate the incoming mayor and deputy mayor.”

Cllr Richard Butler was elected as the town council’s new deputy mayor and will work alongside Cllr Strack.

The annual meeting also served to elect cabinet members for the coming year.
