Plans to build a 20,000 seat stadium in Borehamwood have been discovered in Hertfordshire County Council's agenda for highways and waste management.

The stadium is due to include indoor and outdoor training facilities and is thought to be planned for Rowley Lane, Borehamwood.

A 200-bed hotel and associated conference facilities have also been included in the scheme, labelled the North London Stadium.

The plans have been released in the agenda for the highways and waste management committee meeting on May 13 as part of the Local Enterprise Partnership Strategic Economic Plan.

Hertsmere Borough Council has been approached about the potential sports facility for the area and has made a bid to the Local Enterprise Partnership, which the county council is considering in relation to its potential impact on traffic.

Hertsmere said its aim was to ensure that there is suitable infrastructure in place to maintain traffic flow and protect quality of life in the area, were such a development to go ahead.

Cath Shepherd, communications manager at the borough council, said: "We are regularly approached by businesses who are looking for space to establish themselves within Hertsmere and we welcome such approaches as we are keen to attract further business and employment to the area.  Indeed, we were approached regarding potential plans for a stadium on this particular site around six years ago which did not materialise.

"Any plans for such a development are in their very early stages and no planning application has been received.  Naturally, once any firmer plans are in place we will consult with stakeholders and residents to ensure everyone has their say regarding how this matter should progress."
