Beekeepers have been buzzing over the grand opening of a new bee keeping area in Elstree.
The event was well attended with guests including representatives of Hertfordshire Association of Beekeeping, town councillors and bee keeping experts.
Head beekeeper Andreas Fiaca looks after the two hives that are currently open on the site at at Allum Lane Allotment Site in Watling Street, but the town council hope to open more in the future.
Huw Jones, clerk of Elstree and Borehamwood Council, said: “We are really looking forward to rolling out more in the future to even greater numbers, as it has been very exciting for us to launch this project.”
The event was organised by the town council and hosted by Councillor Farida Turner, chairman of the environment and planning committee
Cllr Turner said: “We are all really pleased. It took us a year to get there but we had to make sure it was done safely and followed all the correct health and safety procedures.
“We have a duty of care to our residents and officers, and work hard at it to provide services people can really enjoy so we are very pleased to be able to have opened it.”
