One man and his dog ran rings around sheep to show children the “wonderful” capabilities of the loveable Border collie.

Farmer David Meek and his dog Dewimirk took to Aldenham Country Park, in Dagger Lane, to raise awareness about the work of shepherds.

The role of the sheepdog is to help farmers herd sheep, to help reduce their owner's workload.

Mr Meek, who owns a farm in Bridgend, South Wales, said: “I put Dewimirk through his paces to show the wonderful capabilities of the collie.

“Without a good dog, it’s almost impossible for a farmer or a shepherd to do their job. They can cover up to 300 miles a week.

“They make our lives so much easier.”
