From scrambling into uniform to training a jet of water onto a blaze, children got a glimpse into the work of a modern firefighter.

Borehamwood Fire Station's White Watch visited Meryfield JMI School in Theobold Street.

They gave pupils advice on safety at home and answered questions on the modern-day role of a firefighter.

Their teacher was then volunteered to ‘beat the clock’ by getting rigged in a fire kit.

Children were then taken outside to see the fire engine and were given the chance to spray water across the playground.

Watch commander Bob Williams said the event was “outstanding”.
