Plans to build two new four-bedroom homes in a residential garden have been approved.

Development firm Blenheim Realty submitted proposals to erect the semi-detatched homes on land on the corner of Carrington Avenue and Lullington Garth, Borehamwood.

One will have a double garage to the side while the other will have a car port.

Hertsmere Borough Council received two objections to the plans from neighbours to the site, stating that the new homes would overlook existing properties, and increase problems caused by car parking and traffic.

At the council’s planning meeting held on March 6, Councillor Pat Strack also spoke against the application. She claimed the proposals amounted to inappropriate development on a garden positioned on a dangerous corner, so access would not be safe.

But in a report to the council, planning officers wrote: “There is no objection to the principle of the residential use of this site, as the site is currently a residential garden. Also, the creation of additional dwellings contributes to Hertsmere’s housing delivery.”

Permission was granted by the committee, subject to the completion of a Section 106 agreement, which secures money from the developer for education, public leisure and other facilities provided by the borough and county councils.
