People from across the county have taken part in celebrations to mark Commonwealth Day.

Councils, community groups and charities took part in the flag raising ceremony along with others across the country to mark the day.

The Commonwealth Flag was raised outside the headquarters of Hertfordshire County Council this morning.

County council chairman Councillor Richard Smith said: “I was brought up to believe in the importance of the Commonwealth and think it is wonderful to be celebrating its success.

"It is an exciting moment of absolute togetherness of the Commonwealth when we celebrate a commitment to the Commonwealth and appreciation of the values it stands for and the opportunities offered to its citizens around the world.”
