A year after he launched a campaign to tackle potholes in Borehamwood’s roads, a member of the public is again battling to ensure the streets are smooth.

Speaking during last night's meeting of Elstree and Borehamwood Residents' Association, committee member Lawrence Stack described his efforts to map the town's potholes.

Mr Stack, of Croxdale Road, said: “A year ago I spray painted round all the holes I could find and reported them to Hertfordshire County Council. Highways filled in more than 200.

"However many of the potholes were poorly filled in and because of all the rain we've had some of the repairs are beginning to break up.

“I am trying to create a map of all the potholes in Borehamwood and I would like people who see potholes to report their location and measurements to me so I can present a complete picture to the council and ensure they are properly filled in.”

Visiting www.hertsdirect.org/highwayfaults is the quickest way to report a fault, whether it is a pothole, broken bollard or faulty street light.

Terry Douris, Cabinet Member for Highways at Hertfordshire County Council, said: “We’re very keen to get more people using our improved online reporting system. It lets you locate faults by postcode, street address or on a map, you can see faults other people have reported and be updated when they’re fixed.

“By including your contact details when you register a fault, you will receive an email fault reference number which will allow you to easily check on progress and find out when it has been rectified. I would recommend that you keep the emails with this reference number so you can check on progress at any time."
