The RSPCA is seeking the owners of a dog that was left tied to a bench.
Sid, a Patterdale cross, was found abandoned in Red Road in Borehamwood at about 11am on Saturday.
A member of the public walking his dog saw a man sitting on a bench with the tan-coloured dog, which has a docked tail.
He came back the same way to find the animal had been left behind with a note giving his name, age, health information and likes.
The dog walker took Sid to RSPCA Southridge in Potters Bar, where he is currently housed.
Inspector Natalie Bartle said: "We would like to ask any member of the public who thinks they might recognise Sid to contact us.
‘Sid is a lovely dog and was obviously somebody’s pet once so we are hoping someone knows something so we can trace his owner."
