Young people are being urged to represent their borough against young athletes across the county.

Hertsmere will be competing against teams across Hertfordshire in this year’s Herts Youth Games on July 6.

Hertsmere Borough Council is appealing for sportsmen and women between the ages of seven and 14 to take part in athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, fencing, football, hockey, netball, table tennis and tag rugby.

Councillor Brenda Batten, who is responsible for leisure, said: “If you have an interest in sport, want to have fun, and make new friends, then taking part in the Herts Youth Games is a brilliant opportunity.

“You don’t have to be the world’s best player, you just have to be enthusiastic and work well in a team.”

More than 100 young people from the borough took part in last year’s Herts Youth Games.

Cllr Batten said last year’s games had had a “great spirit” and a lot of young people who had taken went on to join local clubs afterwords.

She added: “We will ask everyone interested in taking part to come along to a training session. After that, a team will be formed to represent Hertsmere at the games, and you could be in it.”

Trials and training, run by qualified coaches, will take place at various locations across the borough.

If you would like to nominate yourself, or find out about the trials and training, please call community sports officer Helen Hopkins on 020 8207 7801 or email helen.hopkins@hertsmere.gov.uk
