Pupils from Summerswood School in Borehamwood unearth treasures in mock archaeological dig

Borehamwood Times: Pupils unearth treasures in mock archaeological dig Pupils unearth treasures in mock archaeological dig

Pupils unearthed Roman masks and statues of Egyptian gods as they carried out a mock archaeological dig.

Year 3 students at Summerswood Primary School in Furzehill Road, Borehamwood pretended to be archaeologists on Monday as part of their Ancient Egypt topic.

A site was created using string to mark where the artefacts were located and pegged to make it seem realistic.

Armed with trowels, pupils unearthed coins, masks, statues and mosaic tiles while they learned how archaeologists piece together the past from hidden treasures.

One child who took part in the archaeological dig said: “I enjoyed taking pictures of the artefacts we found, especially the Anglo Saxon coins and a wooden mask that we think was Roman."
