A church is in the mood for music after councillors clubbed together to buy it a piano.

All Saints Church in Shenley Road in Borehamwood plans to buy a Yamaha digital piano with £3,280 donated by seven Hertsmere Borough Councillors.

Councillor Pat Strack gave £1,000, Cllr Jean Heywood gave £580, Cllrs Farida Turner and Sandra Parnell each donated £500, Cllrs Morris Bright and Cllr Richard Butler offered £250 and Cllr Susan Maughan parted with £200 for the instrument as part of the council’s ward improvement initiative.

The church hosts community events including concerts from schools and community groups, civic services and festivals.

Reverend Tim Warr said the keyboard would “raise the musical experience” for both performers and audiences.

He added: “Last year some events broke audience records and were standing room only.  This year, in partnership with 96 Shenley Road, we are looking to provide even more and bigger town centre events.

“Providing music is an important part of what we offer to the local community. Thanks go to the local councillors for this generous contribution."
