Police cadets will put their strength and stamina to the test as they run, swim and cycle the distance from London to Paris, without leaving Borehamwood.

Hertsmere Volunteer Police Cadets will take over the Hertswood Centre in Potters Lane in Borehamwood tomorrow afternoon to raise money for camps and other activities throughout the year.

The group of 20 boys and girls will be taking it in turns on the treadmill, in the pool and on exercise bikes to clock up the 300 miles between Borehamwood and its twin town Fontenay-Aux-Roses.

PC Tony Watson, who is organising the event, said the cadets were hoping to raise £1,000 between them.

He said: “As we’re doing the same distance collectively the Mayor of Hertsmere’s London to Paris bike ride will cover in May, we’re hoping to give some of the money we raise to his charity the Ben Kinsella Foundation, which combats knife crime.

“The charity event is a good way to keep the children occupied during the half term and I’m sure they will enjoy themselves.”

While the cadets are carrying out the charity challenge, their mothers will be running a cake stall in The Venue in Elstree Way between 12pm and 5pm to raise money for the cause.
