Hertfordshire's mental health trust has been awarded thousands of pounds to improve safety for the people it supports.

Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust’s safer care pathways in mental health services  project was one of only ten nationwide to receive a share of £4million from the Health Foundation charity.

The £450,000 grant will go towards improving the safety of the 30,000 with dementia and other mental health problems the charity supports every year

Over two years, the trust aims to decrease the gap between best practice and current delivery of care by training staff to put safety first and focusing on making its sites more secure and reliable for patients and their families.

Chief executive Tom Cahill said: “I am delighted about this news and congratulations to everyone involved.  Patient safety is our top priority and this project will make a significant contribution to making care safer for service users, carers and staff.”
