A community organisation is seeking someone who would be able to give up their time to help it manage its money.

Community Action Hertsmere is seeking a new treasurer after Chris Watts, who has held the position for many years, announced his intention to retire.

The not-for-profit organisation gives support and practical help to local community and voluntary groups across the borough and is looking someone who understands accounts to give up their time for free.

Chief executive Heather Walsh said: “This position is an opportunity for a local person to have an active role in making their community a better place.

“The accounts are a bit complicated because, although there is not a lot of money, it comes from a wide variety of different funders.”

Town Mayor Councillor Clive Butchins urged members of the public to come forward and donate some time volunteering for the benefit of their community.

He said: “The role of treasurer for small organisations does not require a qualified accountant, but it obviously helps to be comfortable working with figures.

“Please don’t let lack of expertise hold you back, even if a treasurership is not for you, there are many other ways that you can help in the community.”
