Young entrepreneurs are being encouraged to hone their business acumen in a national competition.

Chamber of commerce Hertsmere Connect is urging local schools and colleges to sign their pupils up to The Skills Factor 2014.

The challenging competition is aimed at 12 to 19-year-olds who can demonstrate they have the skills, initiative, discipline and creativity to enter into the world of work.

Run by Young Chamber UK, which links up teenagers with businesses, Skills Factor asks participants to come up with a business idea that would generate interest in the marketplace.

Chief executive of Hertsmere Connect Ian Welland said: "I am sure there are school and college students that have what it takes to develop an idea and bring it to fruition, demonstrating a range of business skills along the way.

“This competition gives a national platform for ideas, products or concepts that can be commercial, charitable or social in nature.”

The competition is free to enter and schools and colleges who wish to take part should email info@youngchamber.com or visit www.youngchamber.com
