Pupils at a school in Aldenham learned what happens to a criminal on trial during a visit from a magistrate.

Year 8 pupils from Edge Grove School were visited by Mr Crispin as part of the school’s PHSE programme.

He spoke to them about what a magistrate does and what life in a court is like.

Joanna Morrison at the school said: "Mr Crispin helped guide our pupils through a mock trial of Barney Kimble and the victim - all brilliantly role-played by our pupils.

"Barney was charged with attacking the victim but he denied it, although there were lots of witnesses.

"After the case the three magistrates found Barney guilty and he had to pay a fine of £500.

"It was a fascinating experience to imagine being part of a trial and to listen to an explanation about being a magistrate."
