A women’s organisation that stands shoulder to shoulder with those who serve celebrated its 75th anniversary.

Members and guests of the Royal British Legion Women’s Section gathered at the clubhouse in Shenley Road in Borehamwood on Saturday.

More than 130 people ate cupcakes and jelly and ice cream and listened to music from local band Backbeat.

As well as the fun, members watched Reverend Tim Warr of All Saints Church bless the Women’s Section standard, which incorporated a 75th anniversary diamond motif.

Women’s Section regional chairman Rita Cook presented the society with a framed certificate.

Secretary Patricia Grimes read out a copy of the minutes from January 6, 1939, the year the women’s section was formed.

President Carol Denbigh then passed on congratulations from Women’s Section patron Princess Anne.

Chairman Pat Lowther thanked all members for their support over the past years in making the Women’s Section in Borehamwood a leading branch.

The branch is seeking new members. Anyone who is interested should contact the Royal British Legion Borehamwood Branch on 0208 386 2900.
