Young cricketers are one step closer to becoming the young blood the England cricket team so desperately needs, thanks to a grant from a local county councillor.

Hertfordshire County Councillor Alan Plancey, who represents Borehamwood South, allocated £700 from his locality budget to Shenley Village Cricket Club.

The money went towards the cost of cricket coaching camps for the young players.

Cllr Plancey said: "All the money I give is to make the lives of young people better.

"The cricket camps get them out the house and help teach these youngsters, some of whom are disadvantaged, the disicipline and responsibility to help them become valuable members of society."

A total of £10,000 is available to each of the 77 members of Hertfordshire County Council to spend on community projects in their area.
