A project that will help older people to remain independent and play an active role in their communities is being launched.

Community Action Hertsmere has been given a grant by the People’s Health trust, which works to ensure that where people live does not damage their health or life chances, to establish the “Live Well” project.

Aimed at those over the age of 50 living in the Kenilworth and Hillside wards of Borehamwood, the initiative is intended to help them gain the confidence to learn new skills, build social networks, retain their independence and have a good quality of life.

The launch for this project will take place on January 31 at Farriers Hall in Farriers Way in Borehamwood.

Organisations including Age Concern, Crossroads, Hertsmere Leisure and Affinity Sutton will have stalls to promote their work and engage with residents.

Joy Nicholl, who is involved in running the project, is urging people to come along to the launch.

She said: “The biggest stumbling block is reaching those it is intended for as they can be isolated and have no one to share the information with them.

“This project can only be a success if people know about it, come along and tell us what they would like to do and work with us to bring these things into place.

“I know, because I am working alongside them, the community would like a particular set of training, event or activity it stands a better chance of take up and therefore successful outcomes.”

The event runs from 1pm until 3pm.
