Young actors will be able to put on spectacular shows thanks to grants from local councillors.
Theatre Club Kids, which is based in Meryfield School in Borehamwood, has been given £750 by Labour councillors as part of Hertsmere Borough Council’s ward improvement initiative scheme.
The money will be used for items including chiffon scarves, dance mirrors and a parachute game to help the children with their dance and drama practice.
Rita Cooper, who manages Theatre Club Kids, said: "We are really grateful for this money and the continuing support which we receive from our local councillors.
“The additional resources will enhance the opportunities for local children to develop their talents and enjoy all aspects of musical theatre."
Councillors Ernie Butler, Ann Harrison, Di Hoeksma and Richard Butler each allocated £100 to the club, with Cllr Richard Butler topping up with £450.
Cllr Ernie Butler said he and his fellow councillors were very pleased the money would be put to good use.
He said: “The Theatre Club Kids is a fantastic organisation that takes boys and girls from all over Hertsmere and teaches them how to dance and sing and act. Some of their former pupils have made it to the West End.
“I’ve seen quite a few of their shows and they’re spectacular. The donation will help these talented children make their performances even better.”
Every Hertsmere councillor has £1,000 to spend on local projects each year through the scheme.
