A man was taken to hospital after he was involved in a five vehicle crash.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the Barnet By-pass near the turn off to Borehamwood at around 8.50am yesterday morning when four cars and a van were involved in a crash.

The man, who is in his 30s, was trapped in the transit van and had to be rescued by the fire brigade.

An East of England Ambulance spokesman said the man had suffered from a head injury and he had been taken to Barnet Hospital, where he was in a stable condition.

Two lanes of the Barnet By-pass were closed for a few hours by police as they investigated the incident.
