An organisation that supports and advises young people is offering the chance to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime project to help them build skills for work and life.

Youth Connexions Hertfordshire has joined up with the National Citizen Service to give 17-year-olds in the county the opportunity to be involved in its February 2014 half term programme.

Young people from Hertsmere will spend three days at the Stubbers Adventure Centre in Essex, where they will take part in activities including assault courses, BMX biking and high ropes.

During the following three days they will work with a team to design and present a plan for a social action project while learning about their local community and its needs.

The course is recognised by UCAS and many employers.

An NCS graduate said: "I would definitely recommend NCS to my friends. I've had one of the most amazing experiences of my life through learning new skills and meeting new people. It’s 100 per cent a must-do."
