A Borehamwood pub could be demolished to make way for 26 new houses.

The Directors Arms in Ripon Way in Borehamwood has been earmarked by Hertsmere Borough Council officers as a possible site for development in its draft Site Allocations and Development Management Policies.

The document, which will be discussed at the council's Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday, allocates land for different types of development, such as housing and employment.

The new buildings would be mixture of flats and houses. Council officers have said “quality design” is needed as it is a “prominent” corner plot. The tallest buildings would be four storeys high, facing the roundabout.

Other sites identified for housing in the document include 276 flats and houses, some of which would be sheltered accommodation, to be built on Thrift Farm Lane on land currently occupied by Hertswood Academy.

A further 43 flats would be built on the Gas Holders site in Station Road, which may be up to four storeys high.

The document also has plans for five flats and houses on land to the south of Elstree and Borehamwood Station, which would be up to three storeys high.

The Executive committee will decide whether to approve the draft Site Allocations and Development Management Policies document for a public consultation.

Any consultation would then begin in February and would last six weeks. Amendments would be made and then it might be submitted to the Secretary of State.
