The atmosphere at a school’s sports day will resemble professional sporting events thanks to a new sound system.

Parkside School in Aycliffe Road in Borehamwood has been granted £1,500 to buy the equipment, which will be used for sporting and community events, such as marking Armistice Day.

Cowley Hill Councillors Ernie Butler, Ann Harrison and Di Hoeksma each donated £500 from their Ward Improvement Initiative Scheme (WIIS) funding to make the purchase possible.

Hertsmere Borough Council had given each of its councilors £1000 to spend on local community projects.

Cllr Bulter said the sound system would assist in communicating with parents during sporting events and help the school boost their outdoor activities.

He added: “Every opportunity should be taken to encourage young people to take part in sports and lead healthy, active lifestyles.”

Headteacher of Parkside School Julie Muncey said she was “very grateful” to the councillors for the grant.

She added: “This money will enable us to install a high quality sound system which will support our children when participating in outside sports activities.

"An added benefit is that our parents will be far more involved and informed during sports events. We are all very pleased to have received the grant."
