Work is underway to build new lifts at a station, which will be “life changing” for disabled passengers.
First Capital Connect is to install four new lifts at Elstree & Borehamwood Station, in Shenley Road, by April 2013.
The new footbridge is almost complete and builders are currently working to install the lifts.
Step-free access is currently only available at Elstree & Borehamwood station on the London-bound platform, platform one.
Commuters in wheelchairs returning from London have to travel to St Albans and take a train back towards London to get off at Elstree & Borehamwood.
The upgrade, which includes a new footbridge and three new lifts, has been funded by the Department for Transport’s access for all programme.
Erica Marks, whose son Benjamin uses a wheelchair, previously told the Borehamwood Times: “It will literally be life changing to our family.”
