A chamber of commerce that seeks to be the voice of businesses in Hertsmere has announced the appointment of a new chief executive.

Hertsmere Connect, the business organisation supported by the Watford and West Herts Chamber of Commerce, has announced it has appointed Ian Welland as its new chief executive.

Mr Welland, who was the former director of Southampton Chamber of Commerce, has 20 years of working as a town, city and shopping manager.

He takes over from Roger Gagan who served 12 years at the head of Watford and West Herts Chamber of Commerce and will become president of the organisation in January.

Mr Welland said he was “delighted” to be joining Hertsmere Connect and the Chamber of Commerce team and to be taking the lead on behalf of businesses across the area.

He added: “Hertsmere Connect has a vital part to play with assisting the ongoing recovery and growth of businesses as well as supporting stakeholders in championing inward investment and improving infrastructure.

“Hertsmere Connect will continue to grow in voice and influence, moving confidently forward.”

The chairman of the chamber of commerce and Hertsmere Connect Julie Gingell paid tribute to Mr Gagan's hard work and dedication.

She said: “Hertsmere Connect and the Chamber is moving forward and we welcome Ian who comes to us with vast experience.”
