A council will vote next month to decide how members of the public will have a say in its decisions.

The general management committee of Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council has recommended the council change the way members of the public can ask questions in meetings.

Currently, 15 minutes is allocated for public questions, however on some occasions those have been taken up by one questioner, meaning not all those wishing to speak had the time to have their say.

The new recommendations would mean each member of the public would be able to ask one question on a topic the council is concerned with, and a follow up question.

The first question would be allocated three minutes and the second two. Public questions would still last 15 minutes.

During committee meetings members of the public would only speak if invited to by the chairman of the meeting, and would only be able to ask one question.

Councillors will vote on these recommendations at the full council meeting on January 15 at the Civic Offices in Elstree Way at 7.30pm.
