A grandmother who has been raising money for a children’s charity for 40 years will host a fundraising Christmas craft fair.

The annual NSPCC craft fair will take place this Sunday at Allum Hall in Allum Lane, Borehamwood from 10.30am.

Organised by Ann Goddard, who received a British Empire Medal in the New Year's Honours for her services to the child abuse prevention charity, the fair is expected to raise £4,000.

Visitors will be serenaded by local bands including Borehamwood Brass as they browse stalls offering home-made jam, knitwear, woodwork, jewellery, pottery, quilting and toys.

MP for Hertsmere James Clappison will be at the fair to present the prizes to the winners of the NSPCC school art competition.

Also attending will be Mayor and Mayoress of Hertsmere Paul and Linda Morris and Mayor and Mayoress of Elstree and Borehamwood Clive and Elaine Butchins.

Entry to the craft fair is free and there will be parking at the hall.

Last year’s event raised £4,000 and Dr Goddard hopes this year’s will be better than ever.

The retired GP said: “It’s a lovely family day out and as it’s for the NSPCC, children are very much welcome.

“Everyone puts so much effort into organising it and I hope many readers of the Borehamwood Times will come to support us.”

NSPCC Borehamwood holds three events a year, including a ladies lunch, garden party and Christmas fair. So far this year it has already raised more than £16,000 for the charity.
