Strictly Come Dancing: Vanessa Feltz gets the axe
It was another sparkling weekend on our television screens as the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor rang to the nation’s favourite love songs.
Dressed in some of the most glittering outfits, the final 12 dancers strutted their stuff live on air at Elstree Studios, Shenley Road, Borehamwood, on Saturday.
But the dream was quickly over for TV presenter Vanessa Feltz, who was voted off the popular BBC show on Sunday.
The 51-year-old and her partner, James Jordan, performed their tango to Lay All Your Love On Me by Abba - but it was not enough to remain in the competition.
Judges said Vanessa’s head looked like it “did not belong” on her body, adding: “The overall feeling was a bit like decaf coffee - it looks ok, but lacks a bit of bite and snap.”
Fashion designer Julien Macdonald also found himself in the bottom two for the second week in a row, but judges chose to save him.
It could have been an embarrassing moment for contestant Ashley Dawson when the buttons of his shirt popped off mid-show, but he bravely soldiered on to score an impressive 8, 8, 7, 8.
And having wowed the judges last week, Sophie Ellis Bextor’s performance did not disappoint as she danced to her wedding dance song, All Night Long.
The judges said: “You bring a cool, party vibe but I might have liked to see a fun, wild carnival vibe. You have such a natural timing and musicality and you’ll go far because of that.”
