Hertsmere Borough Council launches Us Girls Rock project in Borehamwoo
Teenage girls who want something to do in the evening or would gain from a confidence boost can now attend a dance and fashion project.
After a successful pilot session, Us Girls Rock will be starting in Borehamwood on Friday evenings.
Devised by Hertsmere Borough Council and Child UK, the sessions will combine dance, fashion, hair and make-up and give girls a chance to get together, have fun and learn something new.
The girls will also get involved in creative arts such as street dance and fashion, learning how to customise their clothes and performing a dance routine.
They will also have the chance to be part of a professional dance video or live performance, as well as a fashion photo shoot at the end.
Councillor Brenda Batten, who is in charge of leisure and culture, said: “The project is all about helping teenage girls find themselves and be more confident in being an individual, and not necessarily just following the crowd.
“Participants will be part of something truly unique and the best part is that it’s completely free.”
The Borehamwood project starts tomorrow, at Hertswood Academy dance studio from 7pm to 9pm.
The first two weeks of both projects are taster sessions offering an introduction to each of the creative elements – street dance, fashion styling, hair techniques and make-up.
