Elstree Way Clinic now open Saturdays and Sundays
Patients who are taken ill at the weekend will no longer have to wait until Monday to see a GP.
From this weekend, Elstree Way Clinic in Borehamwood will be open from 8am until 11pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
The service is intended for people who become unwell at the weekend but whose symptoms are not life-threatening.
To book an appointment, patients must call NHS 111, unless they have a 0208 phone number in which case they should call 03000 333 333.
Local GP and chairman of the Hertsmere locality on the Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Board Dr Raja Ganguly said: “The CCG has commissioned this service because we know many patients who felt unwell at the weekend have gone to the hospital A&E department to see a doctor because they thought that was the only service available.
“There are in fact a whole range of other services that can help people in that situation, from High Street pharmacists to minor injuries units, and now this new GP clinic in Elstree.”
Kenilworth representative for Hertsmere Borough Council Pat Strack also welcomed the development.
She said: “This will be an important step forward for patients in Elstree and Borehamwood.
“They can now see a GP out of hours and so be able to avoid going to A&E.”
