Strictly Come Dancing: Show One live blog
This live event has finished
So that's all for show one. Join us again tomorrow night for our Show Two live blog. And didn't Elstree Studios do well.
And here they all are.
Mark and Iveta, and Mark's mask, did the tango.
Ashley and Ola were the first to take to the dancefloor.
Susanna and Kevin received the first standing ovation of the show.
So until tomorrow night, keeeeeeep dancing.
That's it. It's all over. Some impressive scores for the first night.
Tomorrow the nine remaining couples will be coated in fake tan, covered in sequins and asked to dance in front of the nation.
8, 8, 8, 7 from Bruno but it doesn't matter. 31 takes them to the top of the leaderboard after six couples.
It was another standing ovation for Natalie and Artem, the second of the night. Will they steal the top spot?
And here's Natalie and Artem. Very good for a first dance is the verdict. Even Craig was fairly positive.
Here's a photo of Sophie and Brendan from earlier.
Rasputin by Boney M is the track they're dancing too.
Artem is apparently the Russian Terminator. I'm sure the ladies will hope he'll be back...
To finish, it's former Corrie star Natalie Gumede and Artem Chigvintsev who will be doing a cha cha cha.
7 from Craig, 7, 7, 7, another 28. Sophie matches Susanna at the top of the leaderboard. One more couple to go tonight.
Sophie says she's happy she didn't throw up. So are we.
Len says it was gorgeous, understated. Bruno sensed the sophistication.
Very nice. That is my professional opinion.
Sophie's a favourite to win so scores could be interesting here.
Not a murder but a slow death here. Crowd clapping politely as they pass.
How long before we have a 'murder on the dancefloor' joke? #strictly— @AdamTodd310389 27 September 2013
len, why are you giving out an 8 in week 1? this competition goes on until christmas and she can now only improve to a 9 or 10 #strictly— @sophie__butcher 27 September 2013
Dancing to Moon River are Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Brendan Cole. Insert Murder on the Dancefloor joke here...
Bruce is caught talking to someone off camera. Must have lost the autocue for a minute.
6, 7, 8, 7 are the scores, 28. A huge score for week one.
He finished by describing the dance as sublime, so everyone has now forgotten what they were booing about.
Everyone's being very positive, until Craig brings on some home truths and destroys her performance.
Susannah Reid on Strictly. The News will never be the same #strictly— @ACBowell 27 September 2013
Susanna!!!.Drunk mum at a wedding #strictly— @DiwellLisa 27 September 2013
And a cartwheel at the end to finish. Best dance of the night so far. Standing ovation. Elstree loves Susanna!
This is a jive by Susanna and Kevin. From my untrained eye it seems to be going well. Everyone's enjoying it.
Can anyone from Homebase verify that last tweet?
The Elstree branch of Homebase must be hurting for Ronseal tonight. Hope no one needs to creosote a fence this weekend. #scd— @strictlydancers 27 September 2013
Presenter Susanna Reid and Kevin Clifton up now, both wearing a lovely shade of blue.
5, 6, 7 from Len, 6 means Mark has 24. Three more couples to go as we reach the halfway point of tonight's show.
Female dancers on #strictly just awesome bodies #dancingisgood blokes aren't bad either.— @andersonjules1 27 September 2013
Craig says Mark danced rather well. Is he feeling ok? A compliment?!
Brucie seems impressed by Mark and Iveta's effort. No comment on Mark's mask.
I can't decide which woodland creature Tony Jacklin reminds me of #strictly— @MrPaulRobinson 27 September 2013
He's an actor, so he's acting. Instead of dancing. The judges won't spot that.
It's the tango. By the look of the contestants, everyone's been practicing this one.
Elstree Studios, where #Strictly #SCD comes from, opened in 1927. In fact, I think Brucie OPENED them! #BBC1 #BBC1HD— @PeterPRandRadio 27 September 2013
@SarahCadw it's being filmed at Elstree after TV Centre closed— @swmum12 27 September 2013
Actor Mark Benton and Iveta Lukosiute are the third couple to hit the dancefloor.
2, 5, 5, 4 are the scores. He's off to the 19th hole quips Tess. Think I'll join him.
Tony's very sweaty, says Aliona. Nice.
Tess just said ELSTREE!
The people's champion Len says Tony is the spirit of the show. I'll place my bets and say he won't win, but surely has enough goodwill to avoid being first out. Possibly.
Craig with the horrible comments about Tony. No shock #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly @bbcstrictly #scd— @superpidge 27 September 2013
Littered with error and mistakes says Craig. Boos from the crowd.
Bruno says there were some nice moments interspersed with some tortoise movements.
Aww! Tony is so sweet and unbelievably good at the waltz! Can I have him as another grandad please #strictly— @KatyLou_TW 27 September 2013
If that last one was dad dancing, definite granddad dancing going on here. Any slower and they'll be walking round.
Nice use of props there from the Elstree prop cupboard. Unless they stole the platform 10 sign from the station.
SEVEEEEEEN! #strictly— @GeorginaShearin 27 September 2013
A waltz for golfer Tony Jacklin and Aliona Vilani, once Bruce finishes his joke. At least I think it had a punchline somewhere.
5, 6, 7, 7 for Ashley, giving him 25 for the first dance of the series. There will be much worse to come. I can't wait!
Craig says nothing is going on with his hips, calls the footwork feral. At least its constructive criticism.
Len says: First dance, well done. Something about sailing...
Ahh, #strictly. Glad Brucie and the band haven't improved since last year. Fabulous.— @AliBonce 27 September 2013
Starting off with Dad Dancing on #strictly No idea who is the lad is.— @SueHomeyard 27 September 2013
Big cheers at the end. Looked like a decent effort if I do say so. Here's the judges...
Never thought I'd say that.
Not sure about the dancing but the band is murdering this One Direction song.
What happens if his wife goes into labour during the dance? Should he stick or twist?
Looking good in pink @ashoztd on #strictly— @NiamhKennyy 27 September 2013
Hollyoaks chap Ashley Taylor Dawson and Ola Jordan up first. He drew the short straw as the man in pink tonight.
Big crowd inside the George Lucas stage at Elstree Studios. Apparently 1.5 million on the waiting list.
Tess came as a banana. #strictly #scd— @Emma_Cx 27 September 2013
Here they come...
Six couples up tonight then, no public vote. Judges scores carry over to next week.
Bruce 1, Jokes 0
Bruce could have learnt some new moves for the new series.
The crowd inside Elstree Studios has got the clapping going already. Can they keep it up?
Da da da da da da dah... oh you know the rest.
Interesting opening pre-title credits, everyone ready? Then let's begin.
Voice-over man starts the two-minute countdown. If there's anyone still hanging around outside Elstree Studios, I'm not sure they'll get a seat.
I see Miranda's treating us to some dancing to get us in the mood...
So excited for #strictly— @danielw2k1 27 September 2013

We'll be following the first show of this year's competition from 9pm. In the meantime, I'm watching Marvel's Agents of SHIELD on Channel 4. Not bad so far. See you for the show.
Do you know your tango from your Lilt, your salsa from your tomato ketchup or your ballroom from your living room? If not, you're in the right place.
Good evening and welcome to our live blog for the first show of Strictly Come Dancing 2013.
