Italian chef Gino D'Acampo to open kitchen academy at Edge Grove Preparatory School in Aldenham
A celebrity chef will be the garnish on a school’s successful building programme after he agreed to sponsor new cookery classrooms.
Italian chef Gino D’Acampo will be taking a break from his latest television series, Gino’s Italian Escape, to open Gino’s Kitchen Academy at Edge Grove Preparatory School in Aldenham on October 12.
The academy has been built for the introduction of home economics at the school.
The new building is part of an building programme that cost hundreds of thousands of pounds and includes a refurbished science laboratory, a performing arts centre, an adventure playground and new music technology and textile rooms.
Headteacher Ben Evans said: “These new facilities will enable us to offer our pupils a huge range of exciting opportunities as they move through the school and ultimately prepare for entrance to their senior schools.”
The building programme is designed to help implement the school’s new curriculum, which focuses on developing creativity and independent thinking as well as academic rigour in children aged three to 13.
Mr Evans added: “With the added implementation of the independent curriculum, we will be focusing firmly on a rich academic core to our curriculum whilst incorporating the three main strands of discovery, community and application, and creativity.
“We aim to offer a total curriculum that focuses on each individual pupil and the new equipment and facilities will enable us to do that even better.”
