Firestar Toys, Elstree, named in top 100 businesses ahead of Small Business Saturday
A business born when a father sold his daughter’s Lego toys on E-bay has been named as one of the top 100 firms in the country.
Firestar Toys, based in Elstree Road, Borehamwood, is being featured in promotions ahead of the UK’s first Small Business Saturday, on December 7.
The non-political campaign is backed by Chuka Umunna, the Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and Business Secretary Vince Cable.
The quirky company offers personalised Lego figurines and since it was first launched it has gone from strength to strength.
Director Paul Charalambous said: “It’s all down to my daughter, Lucy. I was selling her Lego toys online and realised there was a bit of a gap in the market."
Small Business Saturday aims to highlight small businesses, encouraging consumers to ‘shop local’.
Before launching the company, Mr Charalambous worked in the finance department of Aston Martin before deciding to take the risk with his business idea.
Danny Lezer, 25, who is the firm’s business development manager, said: “We are a micro business, so this is just fantastic for us. We really are thrilled.
“Paul’s had to face a lot of challenges but he has been quite lucky in the way it has gone.”
