A community pharmacy will be working to reduce inequalities and address public health challenges.
Crown Pharmacy in Andrew Road in Shenley has been accredited by the NHS as a healthy living pharmacy.
The shop will promote good health by offering a range of free NHS services and advice designed to help local people improve their lifestyles and wellbeing.
Members of the public will be able to access services including support with quitting smoking, weight management, new medicine advice, reviews of their current medicines, sexual health advice and monitoring for BMI, blood pressure, diabetes and blood glucose levels.
Owner of Crown Pharmacy Dilesh Rajani said: “All pharmacies provide valuable health services but with healthy living pharmacies, healthy living and wellbeing is a core activity.
“We are delighted to be able to support to people of Hertfordshire in living healthier lives.
“We know that people like the accessibility of their local pharmacy and the fact that they do not have to book an appointment.”
There are now over 500 across England and seven in Hertfordshire.
The store will also have a heath champion who is specially trained in promoting health and well being.
The first healthy living pharmacy was accredited in Portsmouth in 2010.
To mark the accreditation, the pharmacy will have a launch event later this month where people will be able to find out more about the services available.
In October, it will also be involved in the Department of Health’s Stoptober campaign, which encourages people to stop smoking.
