Hertfordshire secondary school transfer process starts today
Schools have just started back after the summer but parents are already making plans for next year.
Hertfordshire County Council is advising families to start thinking about their son or daughter’s future school.
The application process opens today for children wishing to apply for secondary school, university training colleges such as the new Elstree UTC, and upper schools.
Parents can apply online by visiting www.hertsdirect.org/admissions and completing the online application form.
The deadline is October 31.
The application process for children making the move to primary or junior schools begins on November 11.
Cabinet member for education and skills Chris Hayward said he understood parents wanted to send their children to the best school possible.
He added: ”Hertfordshire has a good track record and last year nearly 96 per cent of children were allocated one of their four ranked secondary or upper schools and 95 per cent one of their four ranked primary, junior or middle schools.
“Hertfordshire County Council is not always able to completely satisfy parental preference, despite working very hard to achieve this.
“I would urge parents to carefully consider the preferences they make, to make realistic preferences and to visit local schools before applying.”
