Applications open for second Rotary North London Disability Games
A rotary club hopes to keep the Paralympic legacy alive by sponsoring disabled athletes.
Elstree and Borehamwood Rotary Club is seeking people to compete in the second Rotary North London Disability Games.
This year’s competition, which takes place on October 13 at the Aspire National Training Centre in Stanmore, is open to anyone regardless of their disability.
Teams from across north London will compete in sports including boccia, bowls, table tennis, darts and wheelchair slalom.
Last year’s event was hailed by organiser and Rotarian Scott Maclachlan as a “great success.”
He added: “Everyone had a good time and I am pleased with how much support we all got.”
Now Elstree and Borehamwood Rotary Club is looking for teams and individuals it can sponsor to compete in the games.
Rotary Club member David Clout added: “I have one interested participant who represented the Aspire Centre at table tennis at a national gathering at Stoke Mandeville.
“He is wheelchair bound having had his spinal cord crushed in an accident.”
Applications for the games close in mid September.
