New footbridge at Elstree and Borehamwood Station will be finished on schedule say contractors
The contractor carrying out work on a new footbridge is confident it will be finished on schedule.
Contractor BAM Nuttall is currently carrying out work at Elstree and Borehamwood Station to build a new footbridge.
With lifts to every platform, the footbridge will provide access for people in wheelchairs, buggies or luggage.
Previously disabled passengers had to travel to High Barnet or Edgware, the nearest step-free access stations.
The contractor has assured Network Rail and First Capital Connect the work, which started last year, will be completed in March.
This is despite delays caused by complications with underground cables where the lifts were going to be.
Writing to MP for Hertsmere James Clappison, the managing director of First Capital Connect David Stratham said there was still a possibility unforeseen circumstances could delay the delivery date.
He added: “I am confident, on completion, this project will deliver a real improvement.”
