MP for Hertsmere James Clappison votes for possible military action in Syria
The MP for Hertsmere voted in favour of possible military action in Syria to prevent the use of chemical weapons.
James Clappison MP was among Conservatives who stayed loyal to Prime Minister David Cameron in last night's House of Commons debate.
Mr Cameron recalled Parliament to propose a motion on the principle that military action could be required to protect Syrian civilians.
However he was defeated in a House of Commons debate last night by 285 votes to 272.
Mr Clappison said he believed in respecting the will of the House of Commons, which reflected the views of the British people, but added he believed in the need for a response to the use of chemical weapons.
The debate came after a suspected chemical attack last week near Damascus in which hundreds of people were killed.
