Hertfordshire County Council launches guide for disabled young people
A new information guide to help disabled young people plan for the future has been launched.
Hertfordshire County Council’s Youth Connexions team has been leading a project to develop a transition guide to help disabled young people make plans for the future.
Patricia Walker, lead author and senior officer for services for young people, said: “The guide aims to help young people navigate their way through transition as they move from childhood to adulthood.”
Richard Roberts, who is responsible for children's services, said: "The teenage years can be a challenging time for any child but especially so for a disabled young person and their family.
"This guide aims to help families to better understand the range of support available to them, enabling disabled young people to reach their full potential as they transition from child to adulthood.”
The guide includes information about post-16 choices, looking after yourself, social care, health, money, leisure and housing.
