A councillor is doing his bit to help victims of domestic abuse speak out.

Hertfordshire County Councillor Morris Bright has allocated £500 to Hertfordshire Domestic Abuse Helpline from his locality budget.

The helpline, which can be reached by calling 08 088 088 088, offers support to people who are victims of violence and abuse from family members and partners and helps them regain control of their lives.

The representative for Potters Bar West and Shenley said he had allocated the money because of the huge importance of services like the helpline.

He added: “The grant will be used to fund the costs of running the Hertfordshire domestic abuse free-to-caller helpline.

“This will assist and support victims in coming forward, thereby reducing the likelihood of victims continuing to be affected by domestic abuse.”

Each county councillor has access to £10,000 to spend on worthwhile social, economic or environmental projects in their area.
