Heartfelt messages paying tribute to the teenage couple who died after being hit by a train have been left on a Facebook page.

Nearly 3,000 users have joined the special group set up for people to pay their respects to Charleigh Disbrey, 15 and her boyfriend, 18-year-old Mert Karaoglan, who were pupils at Hertswood Academy in Borehamwood.

The pair were found on the tracks at Elstree & Borehamwood Station on Monday night, having been hit by a high-speed moving train just before 9pm.

One poignant tribute read: “Charleigh, we watched you sing, we watch you laugh, but that wasn’t enough to keep you here.

“When I look into the sky now you are an angel. We are missing you so much, I wish I could have done something but I couldn’t. Rest in peace.

“You sung your heart out and we fell in love with your beautiful voice.”

Another wrote “Beautiful and talented Charleigh, our hearts are broken beyond words”, while one read: “I know I will hug my children a lot closer tonight. Goodnight, sleep tight in God’s arms.”

Friends also posted photos of the pair on the group, with one caption reading: “Heaven has gained a beautiful singer and one very nice lad.”

Charleigh, also known as CJ, was studying for her GCSE’s while Mert had just completed his A-Level exams.

People also flocked to Twitter to express their sadness surrounding the couple’s death.

One user tweeted: “CJ and Mert, may the angels in heaven look after you forever.”

Another wrote: “I saw them walking together like nearly everyday on the way to Hertswood. They looked so happy.”
