Work to build new step-free access at Elstree & Borehamwood station has been delayed again after cables were found buried underneath the platforms.

This is the second blip in Network Rail’s £2.8m project after problems with where to put the crane meant work had to be halted last September.

It was rescheduled to March, but the unexpected find has meant work will now not start until the beginning of July.

Contractors found the underground cables, which include cameras and screens required for driver operated train dispatch, when they began work last month.

Despite the delay, Network Rail say the work will not change the project’s target completion date in April 2014.
