Celebrate Rama Navami at Bhaktivedanta Manor Hare Krishna Temple, Aldenham
Bright colours and traditional Indian music will fill a temple as people celebrate the birthday of a Hindu Lord – with a twist.
Hundreds of people are expected to turn up to the Bhaktivedanta Manor Hare Krishna Temple in Hillfield Lane to mark the birth of Lord Rama Navani.
The story of Rama is depicted in the Indian epic The Ramayana, which says he overcame difficulties to become the “perfect teacher”.
As festivities coincide with the temple’s 40th anniversary and organisers are looking forward to the celebration.
During the event, children will have the chance to take part in special games, face painting, yoga, arts and crafts and a raffle.
There will also be free vegetarian food and people will sing devotional music in front of the temple’s shrine.
A special Swan Boat ceremony on the lake will also be held between 4.30pm and 7.30pm.
Radha Mohan-Das, who is helping organise the event, said: “It should be a great day.
“It is a nice coincidence the festival falls near the same time as the celebrations so we thought we would do something extra special this year.
“It is going to be one of the most unique events we’ve had here.”
People from all backgrounds, cultures and faiths are invited to the event at the temple this Sunday, April 21 from 2pm to 9pm.
