Campaigners who took a petition to save Maxwell Park to the streets this weekend had to abandon the event due to heavy rainfall.
June Kempton had planned to gather more signatures to save the well-loved community centre in Maxwell Road, Borehamwood, but the rain meant she had to reschedule it.
The “irreplaceable” centre, which holds table tennis, music clubs and mum and baby classes, is due to close later this year when a new community centre in Shenley Road is built in its place.
But residents and centre users determined to keep the 50-year-old centre alive and have started a petition in the hope of convincing the county council to change their minds.
Natasha Starr, who runs a baby music class from the centre, said: “It would be a tragedy to see this place go and it would cause me terrible disruption. It is a wonderful community centre.”
Mrs Kempton, who is the club’s secretary, hopes to take the petition to the Boulevard, in Shenley Road, Borehamwood, next Saturday, weather permitting.
