Children at a Borehamwood dance school are celebrating success after taking part in a performing arts competition.
Eleven girls from the Shoshana Burns School of Dance, in Theobold Street, Borehamwood, took part in the Watford Festival last week.
The six to eight-year-olds were given five minutes to learn a poem before reading it in front of an audience.
Seven-year-old Jemma Newgrosh, who picked up a gold medal, said: “I am so happy I won. It was so much fun and everyone was really good.”
Another student, Georgia Gee, eight, said she enjoyed the experience.
She added: “I really enjoyed reading at the festival. I can’t wait to do it again next time.”
Teacher Shoshana Burns said: “I am so proud of all the children who took part. This was the first time any of them have competed professionally and they dealt with the pressure amazingly.
“I believe these opportunities really develop skills for life.”
