Petition on Radlett rail freight petition reaches 10,000 signatures - enough to spark debate at Hertfordshire County Council

Determined campaigners petitioning against a rail freight terminal being built at the former Radlett Aerodrome have ‘cracked’ the 10,000 mark.

Action group STRiFE, who set up the petition, have been collecting signatures since January 3.

The number means the campaign has enough to trigger a five-minute debate at Hertfordshire County Council on March 26.

The petition asks the council not to sell the land located between Park Street and London Colney, to the developer HelioSlough.

Cathy Bolshaw, co-ordinator for STRiFE, said: "We have cracked the 10,000 mark, which is fantastic and we are really pleased."

She added: "We have made history so far as Hertfordshire County Council are concerned.

"Now, we are just looking forward to the debate. Everyone is welcome."
