Hertsmere borough councillor Hannah David resigns to take on Labour in Harrow West

A councillor has called time on her nine-year stint in office and has resigned from her role.

Conservative member Hannah David, who was elected to Hertsmere Borough Council in 2004, made the decision after being selected as a Parliamentary candidate in Harrow.

The mum-of-three said she has "loved" being a borough councillor but feels now is the time to pass the baton to someone else.

She added: "This is an extremely difficult time for me and I feel proud Borehamwood residents have voted for me on three occasions.

"But in recent months I have found myself more in Harrow and less in Hertsmere and that doesn’t feel right to me.

"I have always believed if you can’t give 100 per cent to something you shouldn’t do it."

She will fight to win election to Parliament against incumbent Labour MP Gareth Thomas in Harrow West at the next General Election, expected to take place in 2015.

Morris Bright, leader of Hertsmere Borough Council’s Conservative group, said: "I know Hannah has always striven to put the needs of residents at the forefront of her efforts.

"I thank her for her magnificent efforts and we all wish her much success in her future political career."

A by-election will be held on Thursday, May 2.
